State of Gender Equality and Climate Change in Bangladesh - Brief for Policy Makers

This brief summarizes findings of an assessment of the links between gender and climate in Bangladesh prepared by IUCN, UN Women and UNEP to inform policy making in the areas of agriculture, water resource management, forestry and renewable energy. It notes Bangladesh has joint NDC-NAP governance and is aligned with national plans. However, it points to weak integration of gender equality, limited guidance and little data disaggregated by gender, age and diversity. Recommended actions include raising awareness among parliamentarians, building capacity across ministries and at the local level, strengthening coordination with gender and climate experts, promoting women in leadership positions and developing technical guidelines for gender mainstreaming and budgeting. The sector snapshots highlight gaps, such as the minimal gender focus in renewable energy and insufficient recognition of the role of women in agriculture and forestry, while water policy recognises participation but fails to integrate climate.
