UNEP-SPP-CWP-OEWG.3-CRP.2 - ADVANCE

This document records a submission by the Africa region to the third session of the ad hoc open-ended working group convened in Geneva from 17–21 June 2024 to develop proposals for establishing a science-policy panel on chemicals and waste and pollution prevention. It explains that selecting the panel’s name is a primary objective and that the name should reflect a science-policy body addressing pollution as the third element of the triple planetary crisis across the chemicals-and-waste value chain. Citing naming precedents, it proposes “Intergovernmental Panel on Chemicals and Waste and to Prevent Pollution” with the abbreviation IPCWP, noting that similar abbreviations (IPCHEM, IPCP) are already in use.
