Abstract
This report presents an assessment of information exchange mechanisms used to address illegal waste shipments, focusing on cooperation between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. It is based on a survey of 106 participants from 39 countries across multiple enforcement authorities, examining experiences, detection practices, and communication methods. Findings show that detection mainly occurs through routine controls and risk management, with frequent multi-agency involvement at national and international levels. Information sharing is common but supported by underutilised tools, often replaced by informal communication channels. Key gaps include limited coordination, insufficient use of existing systems, and uneven access to training, highlighting the need for improved cooperation, clearer roles, and strengthened legal and operational frameworks.
