Ecosystem based Adaptation

This brochure, produced through a collaborative effort by UNEP, UNDP, and IUCN with support from Germany’s BMUB, offers an in-depth overview of how Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) strategies are empowering vulnerable mountain communities in Nepal, Peru, and Uganda to address the multifaceted impacts of climate change. Showcasing locally relevant, science-backed interventions—from restoring wetlands and critical water channels to building capacity for indigenous grassland management and implementing climate-resilient farming techniques—the document highlights the crucial role of healthy ecosystems in supporting community livelihoods and boosting resilience. Citing specific project sites and firsthand stakeholder experiences, it demonstrates the effectiveness of partnerships among governments, local authorities, research institutions, and civil society, while also detailing early lessons learned and the importance of integrating EbA into development policy.
