This section provides an overview of environmental statistics and data used in environmental assessments at national, regional and global levels. It examines the availability and state of existing data and knowledge, the processes involved in collecting data, and their use in compiling statistics and developing indicators. The section also identifies emerging sources and approaches that remain underused but offer opportunities to improve environmental measurement.
