Abstract
This training manual presents a structured regional course designed to strengthen the capacity of coastal zone managers to integrate disaster risk reduction into coastal development and management practices. It situates the training within the context of high exposure of Asian coastal areas to natural hazards and environmental degradation, emphasizing the role of healthy coastal ecosystems in reducing risk. The document sets out the purpose, target audience, and learning objectives of the course, and explains how the manual is intended to be used alongside presentations and reading materials. It is organized into an introduction and three sections covering training modules, terminologies, and reference materials. The core content consists of eight modules detailing concepts, methods, tools, case studies, and exercises related to risk assessment, vulnerability, ecosystem-based measures, and integrated planning.
