Disarmament, Environment and Sustainable Development: A Time for Action

The origins of the present arms race are many and complex. To a large extent they can be found in the political and socio-economic differences between the countries from the two groups of States which later came to form the two main alliances. These tensions between East and West still constitute the central feature of the arms race.
