Tourism and Coastal Resources Degradation in the Wider Caribbean

This report forms part of a series of studies assessing the level of coastal and marine resource degradation associated with tourism in the Wider Caribbean, while identifying effective approaches, practices, and public awareness and training measures to address these issues. It combines a review of environmental conditions, key pollution sources, and tourism-related impacts through an analytical framework linking activities, facilities, and geographic zones. The report includes Island Resources Foundation’s assessment of the extent of degradation and presents approaches to address these pressures. It also considers economic and social benefits alongside environmental costs, noting data limitations. The findings are intended to support pilot projects, training activities, and informed decision-making by regional and national planners and policy managers.
