Abstract
This document examines agroforestry as a nature based approach to address climate change within agrofood systems by integrating trees with agriculture, forestry and urban land uses. It outlines five practice types and evaluates their capacity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance carbon storage in soils, and improve resilience to climatic stresses such as drought and flooding. The document describes mechanisms including soil carbon sequestration, water regulation, and diversification of production, while also detailing economic, social and environmental outcomes, stakeholder engagement, and implementation pathways across multiple regions and land use contexts.
