Abstract
This document is the Asian Development Bank Sustainability Report for 2009, presenting the institution's policies, programs, and practices regarding social and environmental sustainability across Asia and the Pacific. The report charts ADB's implementation of Strategy 2020, its long-term strategic framework emphasizing inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Core operational areas include infrastructure, environment, regional cooperation, finance sector development, and education. The report documents ADB's development assistance activities—which averaged over $11 billion annually during 2007–2008—alongside efforts to strengthen governance, combat corruption, and promote gender equity in client countries. Additionally, it describes ADB's corporate sustainability initiatives, including resource conservation at its Manila headquarters, environmental management system certifications, and staff engagement programs designed to advance organizational effectiveness and workplace well-being.
