Abstract
This quarterly report provides an account of activities and developments undertaken between July and September 2021 in support of the mandate of the United Nations Environment Programme, as presented to the Committee of Permanent Representatives. It describes significant global, regional and thematic developments, including delivery under coronavirus disease conditions, efforts to support green recovery, and high-level international processes related to sustainable development, biodiversity, climate change, pollution, and ecosystem restoration. The report outlines programme implementation across core areas covering climate change, resilience to disasters and conflicts, healthy and productive ecosystems, environmental governance, chemicals, waste and air quality, resource efficiency, and environment under review, highlighting projects, assessments, policy support, capacity-building activities, and partnerships with Member States and other United Nations entities. It documents regional actions in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America. The report also presents cross-cutting work on gender mainstreaming and environmental and social safeguards. In addition, it provides detailed information on resources and management, including financial updates, budget allocations and expenditures, resource mobilization, human resources, audits, and evaluations. Overall, the document records operational progress, constraints, and administrative matters during the reporting period, based strictly on activities implemented and data reported within the quarter.
