Advancing the One Health response to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

This document outlines a One Health approach to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). It defines AMR as the loss of effectiveness of medicines against microbes in humans, animals, and plants, and frames AMR as a complex public health and agriculture challenge. It summarizes global and national responses, emphasizes multi-sector and multidisciplinary collaboration across health, agriculture, environment, trade, education, finance, civil society, academia, industry, and private sector, and describes governance and coordination structures. It concludes that sustained political leadership, tailored governance mechanisms, and dedicated time and resources are essential to drive action and maintain collaboration toward an effective, coordinated AMR response.
