CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF MIGRATORY WATERBIRDS

This document sets out Resolution 6.4 under the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds, adopted at the sixth Meeting of the Parties in Bonn (9–14 November 2015), to strengthen conservation and ensure any use of migratory waterbirds is sustainable. It recalls Parties’ obligations under the Agreement and Action Plan, notes links to the Strategic Plan 2009–2017, and highlights gaps in national legal protection, limited harvest information in parts of the Agreement area, incomplete progress on phasing out lead shot, and ongoing illegal taking. It urges legislative alignment with Table 1 requirements, expanded national Column A lists, stronger monitoring and harvest data collection, wider use of sustainable harvest guidance, coordinated goose management initiatives, and increased action to contain or eradicate high-risk non-native waterbird populations.
