Sub-regional Customs Training to Enhance Monitoring of Trade of Mercury, Mercury Compounds and Mercury-added Skin Lightening Products - Summary Report

This summary report presents the outcomes of the sub-regional customs training workshop held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 3–4 June 2025 within the Global Environment Facility-funded, United Nations Environment Programme-led project “Eliminating Mercury Skin Lightening Products”, carried out by the World Health Organization and the Biodiversity Research Institute in collaboration with the Governments of Gabon, Jamaica, and Sri Lanka. The document describes the workshop’s purpose, background, and activities aimed at enhancing the monitoring of trade in mercury, mercury compounds, and mercury-added skin lightening products. It covers sessions on regulatory frameworks, enforcement practices, risk assessment, cross-agency coordination, country experiences, practical exercises, and participant feedback.
