Green economy scoping study: Republic of Moldova

This document is a scoping study conducted to assess the potential benefits of transitioning to a green economy in the Republic of Moldova. It provides a detailed analysis of Moldova’s socio-economic and environmental context, with particular focus on the agriculture and energy sectors. The study uses system dynamics modelling to simulate the outcomes of green economy interventions compared to a business-as-usual scenario. In energy, transitioning to renewable sources and improving energy efficiency are estimated to reduce emissions, enhance energy security, and provide positive economic returns within ten years. The document also examines Moldova’s policy alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and EU standards, emphasizing the need for regulatory reform, fiscal incentives, and capacity-building.
