Abstract
This document summarizes consumer-level food waste in Belgrade, Serbia, including national figures and the food service sector’s contribution, current disposal pathways, and the lack of monitoring data and separate biodegradable waste collection in the city. It outlines how existing national and municipal policies address waste management, noting that no law deals directly with food waste while the city plan sets recycling and infrastructure targets. It describes roles for civil society and ongoing projects that support surplus food donation and voluntary schemes. It highlights digital initiatives, including a web platform linking donors and recipients and a blockchain-based retail connection, and it notes upgrades to the Vinča landfill through a public–private partnership.
