Management of Mercury and Mercury-Containing Waste- Mercury Substitution Priority Working List

This project document outlines a United Nations Environment Programme initiative to strengthen the management of mercury and mercury-containing waste in selected developing countries in Asia and Africa. It aims to reduce mercury releases and human exposure by building technical capacity, developing national waste management plans, and testing the applicability of draft technical guidelines on environmentally sound management. The project includes inventory review, source prioritisation, sectoral action planning, sampling and laboratory analysis, and stakeholder consultation. It provides for training, awareness-raising, institutional coordination, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation, with national implementation supported by international technical expertise and defined budget allocations.
