Chernobyl: Looking Back to Go Forward - Proceedings of an International Conference

This document records the proceedings of an International Atomic Energy Agency–organized conference held in Vienna on 6–7 September 2005 to present the Chernobyl Forum’s consensus findings on the 1986 accident’s environmental, health, social, and economic consequences and to outline recommendations for remediation, special health care, and research programs. It compiles opening addresses, expert presentations, panel discussions, and the conference findings, with participation from 41 countries, 20 international organizations, and United Nations bodies including WHO, UNDP, FAO, UNEP, UN-OCHA, UNSCEAR, and the World Bank. Sessions review 20 years of evidence on contamination, cancer and non-cancer outcomes, psychosocial impacts, agricultural and forestry countermeasures, and policy options for rehabilitation, aiming to inform governments and the public and promote coordinated, science-based action.
