Global Environment Outlook 6 - Chapter 20

This chapter defines the vision used for the scenario analysis of the sixth Global Environment Outlook, taking a long-term perspective that extends beyond 2030. The vision uses the Sustainable Development Goals as an overarching and integrated framework of goals and targets. It begins by identifying key environment-related targets and, where appropriate, further quantifies them using targets from related multilateral environmental agreements and the scientific literature. This long-term vision addresses the central theme of the sixth Global Environment Outlook—Healthy Planet, Healthy People—by focusing on global environmental targets associated with the five themes discussed in Part A (State of the Global Environment), together with related targets on multidimensional poverty and health. Chapters 21 and 22 assess the existing scenario literature to support discussion of future developments in relation to these targets and the pathways for achieving them.
