Abstract

The Asia-Pacific region is at the epicenter of the global plastic pollution crisis, facing unprecedented challenges that threaten both environmental and socio-economic stability. Plastic pollution disrupts marine ecosystems, damages biodiversity, and impairs the provision of essential ecosystem services. Microplastics and toxic chemicals released from degrading plastics contaminate aquatic food webs, posing risks to food security, fisheries, and human health.
