International Environmental Law-making and Diplomacy Review 2011

This document compiles papers from the 2011 University of Eastern Finland–UNEP course on international environmental law-making and diplomacy, held 4–16 September in Bangkok. It examines multilateral negotiation settings, links among agreements, and evolving rules and procedures. It analyzes compliance and coordination across biodiversity conventions, draws lessons from chemicals and wastes cooperation, and reviews global biodiversity trends with proposed policy responses. It explores access and benefit-sharing, species trade controls, and national implementation to halt biodiversity loss. It includes practical exercises on drafting, the Aichi Targets, joint work planning, and a simulation on the International Whaling Commission.
