Abstract
This report provides a regional overview of the expected impacts of climate change on the coastal and marine environment of Eastern Africa, prepared under the United Nations Environment Programme Regional Seas Programme. It examines physical characteristics of the region, current environmental conditions, and projected changes in temperature, precipitation, and sea level based on established scientific assumptions. The document synthesizes contributions from a multidisciplinary task team to assess potential effects on ecosystems, water resources, agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, and coastal populations. It outlines observed vulnerabilities and emphasizes uncertainties in regional projections, while systematically describing how climatic drivers may interact with existing environmental pressures across mainland coasts and island states.
