Abstract

This report provides a regional situation analysis of sustainable tourism in the Caribbean, examining how tourism-dependent economies are addressing sustainability within policy, planning, and practice. It outlines the study’s purpose, methodology, and limitations, drawing primarily on survey responses from tourism authorities and supporting document review. The analysis identifies key priorities, barriers, and opportunities related to governance, financing, environmental management, human resources, and cross-sector collaboration. It highlights constraints such as limited access to finance, information gaps, and uneven government commitment, alongside opportunities including policy frameworks, conservation mechanisms, monitoring systems, education, and stakeholder engagement. The report also reviews regional funding patterns and institutional roles, concluding with findings on coordination needs and implementation challenges for advancing sustainable tourism development across the region.
