Côte d’Ivoire toxic waste sites back within guidelines 12 years after Probo Koala: UN Environment audit

This document reports UN Environment’s independent audit of 18 sites in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire affected by the 2006 Probo Koala toxic waste dumping. Sampling of soil, water, air, sediment, and food items in 2016–2017 found no site exceeding Côte d’Ivoire remediation limits, so no further cleanup is required. One Agboville site showed elevated chromium needing monitoring and access restrictions. The audit also notes emerging environmental hotspots and calls for continued public health monitoring of long-term impacts.
