Abstract

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is rolling out the United Nations Development Account project “Enhancing sustainable public procurement for the regional transition to inclusive green economy in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA)” (UNDA SPP project) in Uzbekistan. In November 2019, UNEP conducted a mission to Uzbekistan that aimed at i) meeting with the Uzbek counterparts and building a good base for future cooperation; ii) presenting the project; iii) introducing the SPP approach and iv) discussing the project’s implementation modalities in Uzbekistan. Bilateral meetings were held on 12 November 2019 with governmental organizations involved in the public procurement process of Uzbekistan, namely, the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Finance (see the list of participants in the Annex). During the meetings, UNEP presented the UNDA SPP project objectives and actions and discussed the modalities of the implementation of the UNDA SPP project in Uzbekistan. UNEP also briefly introduced the methodology on Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP), elaborated by UNEP in 2012 and implemented in EECCA countries. UNEP noticed the openness and readiness of both the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Finance to work on introducing SPP principles.
