Abstract
This document presents a consultation draft for a unified approach to environmental data that the United Nations Environment Programme aims to complete by 2025, grounded in United Nations system mandates and aligned with Agenda 2030. It defines three objectives: Data for Good, Data for Action, and Data for Future, supported by principles including long-term vision, simplification, rationality, cost-effectiveness, user-centred design, impact, partnership, and capacity building. The strategy has two pathways: integrating data and knowledge across the United Nations Environment Programme and developing a digital platform with partners through the World Environment Situation Room. It connects the strategy with implementation through milestones for 2021, 2023, and 2025, country use cases, assessment processes, and a phased financing and partnership plan extending to 2030.
