Adaptation Gap Report 2024 - Executive Summary

This executive summary presents a comprehensive analysis of global progress in climate adaptation. It shows that despite increasing planning efforts, critical gaps remain between ambition, implementation and financing, particularly as worsening climate impacts disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations. The Adaptation Gap Report series provides an annual assessment of progress in adaptation planning, implementation and financing to support key processes, particularly under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In line with this, the Adaptation Gap Report 2024 continues to assess information on planning, implementation and financing to examine whether countries are collectively on track to adapt to the global challenge of climate change. This year’s report expands its assessments in important ways compared to previous Adaptation Gap Reports: It includes a dedicated chapter on the "means of implementation" that goes beyond finance— to examine capacity building and technology transfer, and analyses the underlying barriers and processes that affect adaptation outcomes.
