Abstract
This World Environment Day, we are mobilizing communities across the globe to implement and advocate for lasting solutions to #BeatPlasticPollution. This brief describes the global scale and impacts of plastic pollution, noting its presence in ecosystems, food systems, and human bodies. It outlines environmental and health consequences, supported by data on waste leakage and limited recycling rates. The document presents a circular economy approach focused on redesign, reuse, and recycling, with attention to social equity. It also highlights ongoing international negotiations towards a legally binding agreement to address plastic pollution.
