Abstract

This document describes an African Union Commission–led initiative to integrate Ecological Organic Agriculture into Africa’s national, regional, and continental food production systems, currently implemented in nine countries. It sets a vision of resilient ecological organic agricultural systems that enhance food and nutrient security and support sustainable development, and a goal to mainstream ecological organic agriculture into national agricultural production systems by 2025 to improve productivity, food security, market access, and sustainability. The document outlines six strategic pillars covering research and extension, information and communication, value chains and markets, networking and partnerships, policy and programme development, and institutional capacity. It also notes emerging partner coalitions, a continental steering committee, and studies on policy, legislation, and institutional structures.
