Proceedings of Symposium on Water Resources Management with the Views of Global and Regional Scales

Abstract

This document compiles the proceedings of a symposium on water resources management that examined environmental challenges associated with the development and use of freshwater systems at global and regional scales. It presents analyses of issues such as pollution from agriculture and industry, ecosystem disruption, water-borne diseases, and conflicts between upstream and downstream users. Contributions review approaches for integrated basin management, environmental assessment of water development projects, groundwater quality modelling, and control of nutrient pollution leading to eutrophication. Case studies from lakes and river basins illustrate environmental degradation and management responses. The document also outlines methodological approaches including diagnostic basin studies, action planning, and coordinated international cooperation to promote sustainable and environmentally sound water resources management.
