Abstract
This environmental report assesses the potential environmental effects of implementing a national strategy for transport development and infrastructure planning. It was prepared within a strategic environmental assessment process required by environmental legislation to ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into transport policy before adoption. The report examines the existing state of the environment and defines environmental objectives, indicators and evaluation criteria derived from national and European policy frameworks. Using these criteria, it analyses the likely impacts of proposed transport measures on environmental components including air, water, soil, climate, biodiversity, landscape, cultural heritage and human health. The assessment also considers alternative measures, cumulative effects and cross-border impacts, and identifies mitigation measures to reduce adverse environmental consequences while supporting sustainable transport development.
