Environmental Sustainability Report: The Third United Nations Environment Assembly - A Carbon Neutral and Green Event - Executive Summary

This document presents the sustainability measures implemented during the Third United Nations Environment Assembly, held in Nairobi in December 2017 with 3,889 participants. Aligned with the theme “Towards a Pollution-Free Planet,” the event aimed to minimize its environmental impact through six key objectives: measuring its footprint, reducing and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, cutting paper use, limiting waste, and promoting awareness of sustainable practices. Total emissions amounted to 2,741 tons of CO2e, with air travel accounting for the largest share; all emissions were offset through Certified Emission Reductions. Paper reduction strategies, such as digital distribution of materials and double-sided printing, avoided approximately 2.5 million copies, while waste reduction efforts eliminated over 54,000 plastic bottles and 81,000 plastic cups. Awareness campaigns were carried out through social media, official platforms, and internal communication. The report highlights significant progress and a commitment to expand sustainability initiatives in future assemblies.
