"Addressing Challenges ‐ Identifying Solutions": ICCA Global Product Strategy Sound Chemicals Management is a Global Responsibility
Abstract
This document outlines how the chemical industry addresses globalized product-safety challenges by pairing regulation with voluntary stewardship, centered on two initiatives launched at ICCM-1 in 2006: the Responsible Care Global Charter and the Global Product Strategy (GPS), which major companies committed to implement and which undergo periodic ICCM reviews (2009, 2012, 2015, 2018). GPS provides tools for knowledge transfer, guidance, and research; expands information access through base data, Safety Summaries, and a web IT portal publicly launched on 4 October 2010 with over 1,600 summaries and plans aligned to REACH tier deadlines; and raises awareness via management principles and the Long-Range Research Initiative. The document also details SME-focused capacity-building workshops, stepwise GPS risk-assessment guidance, and a UNEP–ICCA MoU (September 2010) with a joint steering group (March 2011).
