Abstract

Urban livelihoods are shaped by interconnected environmental, social and economic factors. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted livelihoods, reduced access to services, and deepened inequalities, highlighting the need for a global recovery that integrates environmental, social and economic justice. Building back better requires placing human rights and sustainability at the centre of urban decision-making while addressing demographic change, using data and technology effectively, reducing inequalities, and strengthening high-quality public services.
