Air Pollution in Asia and the Pacific: Science-based Solutions

This report examines air pollution in Asia and the Pacific and analyses policy options for improving air quality while supporting sustainable development. It reviews the regional context in which rapid economic growth, urbanisation and energy demand have increased emissions and population exposure to harmful pollutants. The document outlines a scientific assessment framework that integrates environmental, economic and social dimensions and applies modelling and statistical analysis to evaluate emission trends, exposure levels and potential control strategies. The analysis assesses existing legislation and additional measures that could further reduce emissions from key sectors such as energy, industry, transport and agriculture. Findings indicate that targeted interventions can significantly lower particulate pollution, improve human health, reduce impacts on crops and ecosystems, and support wider development objectives.
