Abstract
This strategy document summarises the 1991 Caring for the Earth: A Strategy for Sustainable Living, prepared by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Wide Fund for Nature. It outlines a global framework for sustainable living aimed at governments, businesses, civil society and individuals. The document defines sustainability as improving quality of life within ecological limits and presents nine guiding principles covering biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource use, pollution prevention, reduced reliance on non-renewable resources, population stability, community empowerment, improved health and education, integrated national policies, and strengthened international cooperation to support equitable and sustainable development.
