dc.descriptionThis report is a Terminal Evaluation of the UNEP/GEF project “Piloting Innovative Investments for Sustainable Landscapes” (GEF ID 9719) implemented between 2018 and 2022. With the contribution from GEF through its non-grant instrument to the &Green Fund, the project aimed to “prov[e] the &Green Fund’s ‘Production-Protection-Inclusion’ approach to commodity investments” by de-risking commercial financing of deforestation-free land use and thereby “to maintain, restore or increase forest cover while intensifying agricultural production and improving the livelihoods of smallholders through piloting the de-risking of private finance in sustainable landscapes”. The project was implemented in seven target landscapes in Brazil and Indonesia. No investment was made in Liberia as it did not meet &Green’s Jurisdictional Eligibility Criteria. The evaluation sought to assess project performance (in terms of relevance, effectiveness and efficiency) and determine outcomes and impacts (actual and potential) stemming from the project, including their sustainability. The evaluation has two primary purposes: (i) to provide evidence of results to meet accountability requirements, and (ii) to promote learning, feedback, and knowledge sharing through results and lessons learned among UNEP, and the relevant agencies of the project participating countries.
