Emissions Gap Report 2021 - Key Messages

Abstract

This document summarises the key messages of the 2021 Emissions Gap Report, assessing progress towards the Paris Agreement goals and the scale of additional action required to limit global warming. It finds that updated national climate commitments remain insufficient, placing the world on a pathway towards approximately 2.7°C of warming by the end of the century. The document highlights post-pandemic emissions rebound, limited green recovery spending, the potential contribution of net-zero commitments and methane reductions, and the role of well-regulated carbon markets in supporting emissions reductions and increasing climate ambition.
