dc.descriptionThis Workplan covers the 2017-2018 biennium and presents activities to implement the Convention for the Protection and Development of the Marine Environment of the Wider Caribbean Region (Cartagena Convention) and its Protocols and the Action Plan of the Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP). During the 2017-2018 biennium, CEP will continue to coordinate with relevant global initiatives, such as the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land -based Activities (GPA) and related multilateral environmental agreements, such as the Basel Convention for the Control of the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance and the World Heritage Convention of UNESCO (WHS). This Workplan also reflects the close coordination with other agencies of the United Nations such as the International Atomic & Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and its IOCARIBE Secretariat, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), development agencies and other regional and international organizations.
