dc.descriptionThis conservation report documents a capacity-building initiative implemented by six partner organizations to support the long-term conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants in Ghana. Addressing the reliance of over 70% of the population on traditional medicine, the project followed a comprehensive approach that included the development of medicinal plant gardens at Aburi and Legon Botanic Gardens, an ethnobotanical survey in six villages, and the production of a practical manual on propagation techniques. Additionally, computerised information systems were established at the Ghana Herbarium and Aburi Botanic Garden, enabling the analysis of plant collection data in relation to land use and protected areas. This report outlines the methodologies applied, the progress of each project component, and preliminary spatial analyses. The findings underscore the value of digitizing botanical data to support evidence-based decision-making and policy development. The project contributes directly to national biodiversity objectives and provides a scalable model for conservation across West Africa.
