dc.descriptionMany African countries are pursuing green economy initiatives in partnership with development agencies. ‘Switch Africa Green’ is an initiative conceptualized by the European Union. The European Union has secured the collaboration of a number of United Nations Agencies, in particular the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for Project Services ( UNOPS). The initiative is being undertaken in Asia, the Mediterranean region and in Africa. The programme for Africa is being implemented in six countries inclusive of: South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Burkina Faso and Mauritius. The lead national agency is the Department of Environmental Affairs, in South Africa.en
