This document presents a practical campaign toolkit to reduce global food waste by clarifying key terms, quantifying the problem, and detailing actions for individuals, institutions, businesses, and policymakers. It distinguishes food waste from food loss and reports that roughly one-third of food produced—about 1.3 billion tonnes annually—goes uneaten, with significant land, water, energy, and climate impacts, including an estimated 3.3 gigatonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions and 1.4 billion hectares used to grow food never eaten. It provides “think, eat, save” guidance, case examples (e.g., trayless cafeterias, low-cost evaporative coolers), a social media kit, and links to technical references to support evidence-based interventions. It also maps partnerships across UN bodies and civil society and outlines steps for organizations to join and coordinate efforts to cut waste at every stage of the supply chain.en
