Progress toward Sustainable Energy: Global Tracking Framework 2015 Key Findings

This document presents an assessment of global progress toward achieving sustainable energy goals during the 2010–2012 tracking period. Building on the foundation laid by the first SE4All Global Tracking Framework (GTF 2013)—which established a consensus-based methodology and concrete indicators for monitoring global advancement—the document evaluates progress against three key objectives: ensuring universal access to modern energy services, doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. While electrification rates improved, notably in India, access to clean cooking fuels lagged significantly, particularly in rural Africa and Asia. Energy efficiency gains were evident in several high-income and emerging economies, yet overall progress remains below the required pace. Renewable energy consumption, especially in power generation, continued to grow but still falls short of targets.
