This report addresses readers in the wider scientific community and would also like to attract the attention of decision-makers in potential sponsoring agencies and administrations. From the presentation there should emerge not only the interdisciplinary character of the project, its relevance for a number of environ-mental problems and the present capability for assessing from satellites physical properties of the land-surface including its vegetation, but also the problems which exist with the quantitative evaluation of satellite data and the necessity of performing accompanying ground-based studies. The brochure cannot go into much detail. Therefore, for a more scientific description of the project, the reader is referred to the documents listed at its end.en
