Achieving Multiple Global Objectives in a Synergistic and Pragmatic Manner through Scaling up Public-Private Partnerships for Managing Protected Areas

This document outlines African Parks’ proposition for the UN Climate Action Summit (23 September 2019) to scale public–private partnerships for managing protected areas as a nature-based solution that advances biodiversity protection, climate objectives, and sustainable development outcomes. It argues that well-managed protected areas can unlock economic benefits and enable measurable progress across multiple global commitments by blending public and private finance and coordinating governance among states, local communities, tourism actors, and funders.
