SUEZ has developed an innovative wetland-based solution called Zone Libellule® (“Dragonfly Zones”), which represents a leading approach to wetland conservation and restoration. As a nature-based treatment technology, it enhances the purification capacity of the natural environment through bio-based filtration, similar to advanced wastewater treatment systems, while simultaneously supporting biodiversity restoration and improving water quality. To optimize its performance, SUEZ’s scientific teams conducted extensive research on various wetland configurations, assessing factors such as design, climate, vegetation, water flow, and retention time. The results revealed significant variability in treatment efficiency, enabling the identification of patented innovations. Based on these findings, SUEZ can fine-tune wetland systems by combining multiple biodiversity layers with complementary ecological and purification functions, thereby maximizing both environmental and wastewater treatment benefits.en
