Action on lowering the emission intensity of metallurgical coal mining is critical to limiting the impact of the industry on global warming. The aim of Technical Guidance Documents (TGDs) is to assist members of the Steel Methane Partnership (SMP) in standardising reporting of methane emitted from their assets while establishing a performance framework and action plan that achieves a rapid reduction of methane emissions, in accordance with an agreed schedule and defined targets. Technical Guidance Document number 3 is a principle-based draft guidance on performing methane emissions measurements of methane vented at ventilation shafts. The document provides descriptions of reporting principles for different reporting levels specified by the Steel Methane Programme framework.en
