Abstract

This report synthesises the key findings of a countrywide post-conflict environmental assessment conducted between March 2008 and April 2009. The multi-disciplinary study evaluates pressing environmental issues to help national stakeholders identify an environmentally sustainable path toward long-term development plans. Fieldwork included site reconnaissance, stakeholder interviews, water and soil analysis, and satellite image mapping. General findings indicate that conflict-induced population displacement, combined with high population growth and severe land degradation, continues to cause significant ecosystem pressures.
