Abstract
This document summarizes a UN Environment workshop on designing a Global Monitoring Plan for mercury held 13–14 February 2018 in Rome. It sets objectives to harmonize monitoring in humans and the environment, build analytical capacity, and coordinate datasets across regions. It distills a 2016 global review of atmospheric, human biomonitoring, and biota networks, noting coverage gaps, especially in Asia, Latin America, and Africa, and limited data on humans and seafood. It also reports a laboratory survey of 210 labs in 57 countries, 185 mapped, covering methods, QA/QC, intercomparisons, and proposes a web-based databank linked to the POPs Laboratory Databank.
