Regional Consultative Meeting of the UNEP Major Groups and Stakeholders in Africa Ahead of the Tenth Special Session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN)

This document reports on a Regional Consultative Meeting of UNEP-accredited major groups and stakeholders in Africa held 1–2 September 2024 in Abidjan and online, convened ahead of the Tenth Special Session of AMCEN. It describes preparations, opening remarks, thematic briefings, and facilitated deep dives on land degradation, climate change, biodiversity loss, plastic pollution, and the proposed UNEA-7 theme. Participants reviewed UNEA-6 outcomes, discussed roles and accreditation, and organized five working groups to draft outcome statements. The meeting finalized and adopted a lengthy declaration and a summary statement for submission to AMCEN. It also records key messages, questions, and financing figures.
